the missing "toof"

On August 20, 2008 Ella lost her first tooth (or "toof" as she likes to say). For about a month she claimed the tooth hurt when she bit into things. And then she started to say it was loose. We inspected many times but couldn't see any true signs of loose toothness. But, hey, it's not our tooth so what do we know?!

About a week before the big day, Ella began wiggling it like crazy! It completely grossed me out. Blood oozing out from the gums. Ick. But she wasn't deterred. She was only 100% excited. Zoe followed her sisters missing tooth like it was election coverage and diligently delivered status reports on the state of the wiggly tooth.

just like that

Zoe and Ella learned to swim yesterday.

It happened kinda like how the whole crawling-standing-walking thing did. There were mile markers in place and, if we had the whole two summers worth of swimming on video to analyze, we could probably document them clearly. But yesterday -- it all just clicked.

"What's 'Dirt', Mama?"

Here’s the thing about Billboards and kids: they can spot them from a mile off and they notice every little nuanced thing. I was cruising around with Zoe & Ella this weekend when they noticed the (awesome) DIRT billboard.

Ella, “What’s ‘Dirt’, Mama?”

Sprecher endorses Clinton!!!

Dear Friends,

Tomorrow is a big day!!! I know many of you are undecided about who you'll be voting for. I thought I'd take a moment to tell you why I am supporting Hillary Clinton and why I believe she is the candidate who can change our country's direction and get us on the right path.

"flakey flix & beer - food of the gods"

In the midst of a competitive match of KerPlunk Monica dashed off to the kitchen and returned with a Flakey Flix for each of us. I immediately recalled one of our (drinking) life mottos from college -- Freshman year, first apartment with Melissa...

"Flakey Flix and Beer! FOOD OF THE GODS!"

I found myself tonight, uttering those words for the first time in nearly 20 years.

"Flakey Flix and Beer. Food of the Gods." And found myself repulsed by the thought of consumming these two products within days of each other let alone at the same time. Alas, let me be the first to say aloud, Flakey Flix and Beer are Food of the Gods no more.

tick. tock.

"My how time flies."

"The older you get, the faster it goes."

"Where did the day go?"

We've all heard all the silly cliches about time passing. Lately, I feel I'm living every last one of them. I can't believe I haven't blogged since August. I can't believe I actually wrote a draft of a New Year's post but never actually got around to posting it. I can't believe it's the 27th day of 2008. You know what?! I can't believe it's the 8th year of the Y2K!! Does it seem like it's been EIGHT YEARS since we were all freaking out about what would happen to mainframes and power supplies and the whole friggin world when the calendar switched to 0-0?

I know you feel me.
